The Launch and First Annual Conference of the SMART Governance Network
This First Annual Conference marked the formal launch of the SMART Governance Network - a new network of senior officers and politicians in local government that is building on and expanding the work of the former e-champions network.
The Conference, which was attended by over 200 senior delegates, took stock of what has been achieved by local councils in recent years in terms of e-government, efficiency, improvement in procurement practices and business transformation. Leading experts from local and central government assessed how they believe these achievements, and some missed opportunities, are influencing current thinking and investment. They then moved on to set out the agenda for the future and how this will impact on local authorities and their influence their trasformation goals.
Some of the questions posed were:

Are we really reaping the benefits of the £3 billion invested in e-government?

Overall the day provided a great opportunity to hear from expert commentators about the future agenda and for Network members to share their views.
